Bear Cam

Let's Talk Bear Safety!

Tseshaht territory is surrounded by wilderness and is home to black bears. It is not uncommon to see bears at the Chim's Guest House. Visitors need to recognize that being around wild animals can be exciting and scary if you do not know how to keep yourself safe.

Always lock your room and vehicle.  Never leave food outside.

There are a few things guests should pay attention to when encountering a bear:

  • Back up slowly. Never turn your back on a bear, or run. ...

  • Stay calm. If the bear sees you, talk in a low, calm voice and then regardless if it has seen you or not.

  • Jingle your keys or have some sort of noisemaker... bears do not see very well.

  • Do not stare. ...

  • Always look both ways when leaving your car or the guest house, especially at night.

  • Give it space. ... Never approach it!

  • Never come in between a mom and her babies

  • Use your bear spray as it approaches.

About Us

Ed and Naomi Nicholson Have Operated Chims Guest House Since July 11, 2018 in the

Nuu-chah-nulth Territory in Port Alberni. čims Means Bear in Nuu-chah-nulth Barkley dialect. To Help Guests Pronounce and Spell the Word, the Nicholson's Added  the "h" in Chims.

Naomi Studied the Polynesian Cultural Centre in Oahu Hawaii and is a Certified First Host Indigenous Customer Service Trainer. When Teaching First Host, the Program Would Talk About Indigenizing Your Space By Décor or Same, Teaching People Parts of the Language.

Naomi Would Say to Her Participants "Why Isn't Someone Creating Our Own Indigenous Designed Lodging and Experiences, Mexico and Hawaii Have Found a Commercial Way to Showcase and Preserve the Culture."

Fast Forward Many Years Later Naomi and Ed had a Chance to Build their Dream Home with Commercial Zoning Usage. Now They Have Expanded From One (1) Guest House (A Detached Building Like a Cabin) to Add Another Guest House (Bear Studio Suite) and 3 Custom Mint Tiny House Company  Park Model Tiny Homes.

If You Have a Complaint or Feedback on How We Can Improve Your Stay,  Please Call/Text/Email to Let Us Know! We Can't Fix What We Don't Know About.
